Description

“Wild Rice River Friends” was written to commemorate the transistion of long-time friends, living in the same community, to new jobs and new lives many miles apart, yet knowing they would retain their close friendship despite the separation of distance.

Flickering smiles in the firelight
Glistening eyes on our left and our right
Say what you feel we will all understand
Sing us a song and we’ll fill in the band.

Whoever thought we’d be saying goodbye
Wasn’t it yesterday, doesn’t time fly
Can it be true it was so long ago
I hope you remember, I hope that you know.

Wild Rice River friends
Meet where the river bends
Down where the woodlands end
Wild Rice River friends.

Friends are forever for such a short time
Let’s not take for granted a friendship so fine
We’ve traveled together for such a long way
Let’s travel together the rest of our days.

Make up a dream and make it come true
Put all your heart in whatever you do
Don’t be afraid if you stumble and fall
We’ll bear you up whenever you call.

The world will pass by
Those who stand in one place
You can’t turn your back
When you meet face to face
A new opportunity, a new race to run
We’ll help carry you ‘til the new race is won.

Remembrances are the gifts that we give
To fill the hearth in a home where you live
Yet two more gifts we sing
Gifts our Creator brings
One is roots, and the other is wings.

So here is to us and how close we’ve become
Our families together now, seeming as one
More memories to make before we are through
More love to share in all that we do.
