About Me

Once upon a time Tom Prasada-Rao quit his job and hit the road with his guitar. A thousand gigs, seven cars, and two stolen guitars later he’s still at it. Along the way he’s sold over twenty-five thousand CDs and won a bunch of songwriting awards. TPR got his start by winning the New Folk Competition at the Kerrville Folk Festival in 1993. Since then he’s traveled the country playing coffee houses and music festivals – even making it to The Bottom Line, The Kennedy Center, and The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

It shows in his music that he was born in Ethiopia of Indian parents and raised in DC. TPR teaches songwriting having honed his skills instructing at the University of Virginia for 8 years. As a record producer – many of his projects have charted on the Folk DJ list – most recently for Johnsmith. He’s penned songs for country artist Randy Travis, tabla player Broto Roy, and Christian artist Bob Bennett among others.
