Keith L. Mallory – Drum Set Percussionist and Music Educator

Living in Lawrence, Kansas, Keith has the reputation as one of Kansas City’s finest Big Band Drummers, and is in constant demand to perform with regional rock, blues and jazz groups. Currently he is the Director of Marching Band at Washburn University in Topeka, KS, and is an Adjunct Instructor of Drum Line and Percussion at Ottawa University in Ottawa, KS.

Keith’s training began with legendary Kansas City drummer Vince Bilardo around 1971. Since that time he logged three years of study with Professor Charmane Asher-Wiley at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, four years under the tutelage of renowned Mitch Markovitch of the Argonne Rebels Drum and Bugel Corps, two years with George Tuthill in the Sky Riders Drum and Bugel Corps, two years with Dr. Barry Larkin at Stephen F. Austin State University, and four more years of study with Professor Rosemary Small at the University of Connecticut.

Keith’s formal education includes studies at Fort Hays State University, Emporia State University, Stephen F. Austin State University, Southeastern Louisiana State University, and the University of Connecticut, where he completed his Bachelor of Arts in Percussion in 1992. Since that time he has consistently been involved in performance and music education. His college teaching experiences also include tenures at Stephen F. Austin State University, Southeastern Louisiana State University, the South Australian College of Advanced Education, the University of Connecticut, Missouri Western State College, and Washburn University

Keith has performed several Broadway shows, including Guys and Dolls, The Fantastics, The Little Shop of Horrors, Annie Get Your Gun, The Sound of Music, Oklahoma, West Side Story, Jesus Christ Superstar, Carrousel and Cats. He has toured with Barbara and Louise Mandrell, Johnny Rodriguez, and spent the past summer on tour with Smokin Joe Kubek & Bnois King. Other performance credits include appearances with: Kevin Mahogany, Fretwater, Tony Trishka, Bill Keith, Jacomo Gates, George Clinton, Jimmy Thackery, Karin Allison, Jeff Pevarr, Ellen Rowe, KC Boulevard Big Band, Diane Reeves, Chris Vidala, Lee McBee, John Clayton, Chris Woods, Roy Clark, The Bellamy Brothers, and Reba Macintire.
