About Me

I admit to being a classically trained composer, having studied at Boston University under Joyce Mekeel, and The University of Chicago under Ralph Shapey as a Graduate Teaching Fellow.

My path since that training has led me to new thought, and to healing. My belief is that new thought can bring us a new, better world, and that in the process, healing is both needed, and inevitable.

I look today for ways that all that I know, all that I feel, and all that I believe can come together in a musical environment where things can somehow accommodate change . . . where life as we all experience it on a day to day basis can begin to change for the better, in a common venue for all of us that works for all of us.

That may sometimes mean nothing more than listening. Even if the notes remain the same from one listening to the next, it is never the same experience twice.

A small sampling of my work, whether traditional composition, or works which are generative in nature (and never the same twice), can be seen at www.theartofjim.com.

Bringing those notes together, whether in live performance, or in recording, and supporting the change that will make this world a better place . . . is my hope for what I do.
