About Me

Hello, my name is Bill Cox. I live with my wife, Nancy in Little Elm, Texas. Born and raised in Dallas, I worked in television programming for 39 years – first as Program Director of Channel 8, WFAA-TV for 8 years, then as the SVP of Programming for Cable Network, TBS in Atlanta for 16 years. Currently, I am the SVP of Programming for Grit TV, an Antenna Network. I came out of retirement to do that beginning 2011, and love it like a kid in a playhouse. The headquarters are in Atlanta, but I work out of my house in Little Elm. For over 45 years I have loved to write songs as a hobby. Never actually pursued much in the way of having them recorded for commercial use.

My wife and I have been members of Cathedral of Light, a new thought church, for 8 years. It was started by Reverend Kay Hunter, who passed away over a year ago at the age of 93. (She was still doing our Sunday sermons, even in her 90’s.) Our pastor now, as God works his wonders for us, is the incredible Reverend Melinda Wood Allen, who has just revitalized a congregation that thought it might never be able to overcome the loss of Rev. Kay. It is Melinda who introduced me to emPower Music and Arts when I kept asking where this wonderful new music we were hearing every Sunday was coming from. I subsequently worked with Jana Stanfield on a song and went with her to a fantastic day-long workshop given by Tom Kimmel, who performed and helped lead our service that weekend. I am now interested in writing only POSI type songs. And so…I am submitting my very first works as a new member of emPower. There are three songs I am sending through. One is named “Gratitude.” Another is “Love Everybody.” The third is “Connected.” These represent loving, positive feelings and thoughts; when you come across them I hope you might choose to give them a listen. The first two were recorded by our church trio, Rejoice (headed by Kent Ellingson on piano and keyboard) with his vocal on “Love Everybody” and his wife, Kay’s lead vocal on “Gratitude.” Both songs have a heavy country feel but do not need that approach at all. The third one, “Connected” also features Kent on piano and keyboard, while Kay is on lead vocal, and they are joined by her son Cameron on the second verse. There will be future songs.
