I first met Roger a few years ago when his wife Carole, a longtime member of the Unity Worldwide Ministries Music Team, picked me up at the airport and whisked me to the Kennedy Center to see one of his presentations with his school kids.  I was totally blown away.  The place was packed with kids whose hearts had been opened to the beauty of music and art by Roger and his staff.  It was a beautiful testament as to why we shold have more fine arts programs in schools at every level.  I also knew that Roger was a member of the great vocal group "New Day" that regularly performs at Unity of Fairfax and other churches in the VA area.  "Homemade and handed Down" showcases Roger's talent as a singer and a songwriter.

Produced by JD Martin, this is Roger's debut solo CD.  His pure tenor voice is supported with background vocals by Jan Garrett and Carole Tomhave, and every song on this CD shines.

One of my favorites, "Homemade and Handed Down" has a bluegrass feel with close, amazing harmonies.  It speaks of the treasures of simple possessions that have been passed down through the generations.

"I Can Dream Again", co-written with Glen Roethel, is a beautiful love song.  Because Roger has the soul of a poet, he phrases his love in terms of being able to embrace life and dream again. I think this is an original, stunning way of defining the sacrament of committed love.

"One Step at a Time", co-written with JD Martin, is a song about the challenges and blessings of blended families.

Throughout the CD you will hear the soulful piano embellishments of JD Martin, the jazzy harmonies of Jan Garrett, and the pure voice of Carole Tomhave.  Many of the songs are co-written with Dan Johnson, as well as JD and Jan Garrett.  And, when I read the liner notes I discovered that Roger also did the graphic design.  Wow! Give yourself the gift of this CD.  When you listen to the songs, you will feel as if you're wrapped in a blanket of love.  It is music to touch your heart and remind you of the ongoing beauty of life.  Well done, Roger.
