Welcome folks to the beginning of a new venture. The Tech Tips Blog will focus on the unique challenges presented by attempting to bring good sound to environments and situations not necessarily suited to audio quality. For a lot of us this means a Church. Doing sound in houses of Celebration/Worship has always been a challenge. This is evident by the fact that Yamaha in addition to their landmark Sound System guide has produced an added volume entitled Sound System Guide For Houses Of Worship. In this blog my main focus will be to share audio tips and tidbits that will hopefully help you on your way to making your sound experience the best it can be for all involved. I truly hope that the tips I post here will help some of you to solve the little every day audio problems that always seem to surface. Audio enthusiast/ tech for more than 30 years. Over 15 years of touring experience with many Canadian and International Artists. I have been involved in shows at venue’s as large as Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens and as tiny as a bomb bunker in the Golan Heights of war torn Israel during a mid eighty’s united nations peacekeepers entertainment tour. That particular christmas military entertainment tour featured a cast of over 30 performers and included Canadian Magician Brian Glow as well as Canadian Country Star Ray St.Germain. The tour featured shows in Germany, Israel, and on the island of Cyprus. Audience members from many different countries enjoyed this 5 week tour.
More recently I have been teaching workshops for the Canadian Music Store Mega chain Long and McQuade Music and have also done seminars for The Manitoba Association Of Recording Industry Artists. (M.A.R.I.A.) I have also designed workshops for a number of churches in the Winnipeg area. I am the default Technical Director and Consultant at my spirtual home, The Centre For Conscious Living, in Winnipeg. Generally I specialize in audio troubleshooting and complete makeovers of any given system. Identifying trouble areas and training church audio team members in the correct use of their particular sound system is a big part of ensuring a smooth service for all.
The biggest addition to (and by far the most rewarding) my acquired skills in the last few years has been teaching myself drumming, and now, with the lovely Suzanne Rutledge, I am one half of the Canadian New Thought Music Duo 2Suite. With a new single in the iTunes store and a video on the way. I also plays drums in the Posi Rock band Karma180 and they will be releasing an album in the iTunes store this summer.
