At last, the long awaited new release by the magical Sloan Wainwright is here.  This CD includes two of Sloan’s original compositions, along with interpretations of some of her favorite cover songs.

Sloan has a rich and mesmerizing voice and I often say that Sloan could sing the phone book and make it compelling.  So, when Sloan is singing hand-picked classic songs the result is stunning!

"Dear George", an original song by Sloan, is a tender song about starting over after the loss of her beloved husband.  With a sparse background of ukulele and Sloan’s rich voice, this song encourages us to allow time for grief and for the healing which will follow. It is a song about releasing "what is gone" and inviting "what is to be" into our lives.  Pure magic and very tender.

On the classic "Wedding Bell Blues" by Laura Nyro, Sloan is joined by guitarist extraordinaire John Scofield and the result is upbeat and fun.

One of my favorite songs is "The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" and Sloan fills this song with the mysterious magic of "first times" and the sweetness of memory.  A beautiful, heart opening rendition of a much beloved song.

Another fabulous song is "This Isn’t Kindness" by Rob Morsberger and Sloan is joined by her eldest son Sam McTavey on the vocals.  I love it.

This album offers interpretations of songs by Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Paul Simon and others. I can guarantee you won’t be able to stop listening to it.
