Jennifer Ferren is an Atlanta–based performing artist, a New Thought Singer and songwriter, a former New Thought church music director and a member of the Music Ministry Team.  That alone should be enough credentials for you to know the songs on her latest CD “Inside Job” are custom made for your music ministry.  Anyone who’s been to Sound Connections and heard Jennifer knows the girl can sing and she seems to have written songs that show off her voice, especially the upper range where she can really cut loose and wail.  But for the purpose of this review, it is the songwriting I would focus on.

We are all always seeking songs that fit our theology and use verbiage that express that theology.  On “Inside Job” you’ll find 9 songs that are written with that purpose in mind. Jennifer is nearly impeccable in keeping with wording that is non-dualistic and affirmative.  So if you are a stickler for language in your music (like me), you’ll love these songs.  They are also very accessible to play and perform, making this CD a great resource for you in your ministry.  Some Highlights….

“Who Am I” – This opening track is a wonderful statement of self esteem and purpose while adding a great back beat for the hand clappers.

“Throw It All Away” – good advice to clear out the clutter in your life and in your consciousness.  This would make a great yard sale song!

“The Light of Spirit” is a true NT affirmation put to an R&B setting for your more soulful soloists.  A model example for “What’s a New Thought Song”. The chorus is very sing-able for your congregation to join in on.

The same goes for “My Prayer” – it is affirmative and positive and filled with great I Am statements.  Then after hearing the affirmations we hear, “This is the prayer I pray.”  An affirmative prayer put to music; the definition of a New Thought song.

“Inside Job” – The title song has an attitude that will make it a blast for you and your music team to perform.  The congregations will be clapping during and after this one.  If you want to expand your music library of usable Sunday morning music, add “Inside Job” to your “To get” list.

Jennifer has two songbooks available, “Baby Steps” and “Absolutely Everything”, which is all congregational, chant and ensemble songs. Charts for songs from “Inside Job” are also available individually.
