Music in Sunday Services
Did you ever notice the wonderful variety of music being used from church to church? The musicians seem to be getting better, the instrumentation is being crafted to flesh out the tune. It seems that composers are writing their creations with even more elegance these days and the singers' virtuosity is awesome; but, yes here's the but, some of the songs have become so complex in melody and style that the assembly in attendance can't sing along with anybody!
Please don't misread me here. I love a good complex tune as well as anybody. I love to fly around in the embelishment arena too. Sure, it's fun and sometimes it can take the assembly higher emotionally and in spirit if done well. As music directors and coordinators, let's not forget the assemblies. They love to sing too. They appreciate our conscious inclusive choices.

My church home is Church of Christ which means we're doing all of our worship acapella - but it's the same situation there. Some of our songs are quite complex and very difficult to sing. What I like is a combination of the simple and the complex, personally. I enjoy the beauty of the more complex melodies, but sometimes I just like to get lost in the worship with a simple tune too.
