Tech Tip #20 The law of Entrainment
So many people have never heard of the law of Entrainment. Every sound workshop I do I always end up speaking and teaching to it. Here is a cool site that is worth a quick visit for an introduction to the principle.

When two objects of similar vibration, oscillation, whatever...... come into close proximity they will eventually align and pulse together. This works with people, sound waves and many many other things. It is well worth it to go with the force rather than oppose it. Many of you have heard of the line array sound system with all the speakers perfectly in line? Sound familiar? You guessed it! The Law of Entrainment in action. this principle really delivers in practical use of subwoofer cabinets allowing you to use fewer cabinets (and fewer trucks) by stacking and coupling sub woofers to take advantage of increased output by simply moving the speakers closer together. How sweet is that? I love this Law. How does it work with people? Well being a drummer I try to introduce this principle to bass players all the time. It works with all band members but the drummer bass player relationship is special. I am always trying to talk the bass player into setting up closer, and everyone admits that when we are closer we seem tighter and more in "sync" The proof is in the results. Try it yourself, I challenge you. If your band is setup with more then enough room to spare between members and you want to take things up a notch trying moving everyone just a little bit closer to each other and see what happens. I bet the energy goes up (according to the Law of Entrainment) Speakers, people, all kinds of stuff. The Law of Entrainment like many other laws is something we can freely use and is a wonderful thing in action. How about 5000 people at a concert clapping or singing along? Take care.
