Often overlooked is the proper care and feeding of your audio cables. When purchased, your microphone cables have a natural factory curl to them and if you pay attention to this and maintain that natural curl when you wrap your cables, they could last you for many many years and more importantly they will lay properly on the stage when you use them. Anyone who has witnessed the veritable rats nest of cables on a stage will appreciate that. (especially if you have caught your foot and tripped on them) I am a cable freak by my own definition and actually teach proper cable wrapping in my audio workshops. Why would anyone be so obsessive about cables you ask? Well the big idea is that when cables are tangled they are being stressed and putting undue pressure on the tiny wires within that cable which will certainly cause premature failure. This goes for almost all cables and incidentally also goes for high quality rope such as rock climbing and mountain climbing rope. Professional water skiing rope also falls in this category. I have included a link to a website that offers a guide to proper cable care. Check it out if you get a chance and remember: A neat and tidy stage not only looks great but is much safer for everyone.
