Necessity Inspired this Mother to Invention
This is such an inspiring example of proactive parenting. When Katie Eshleman's daughter Carly was diagnosed with a disorder called Childhood Apraxia of Speech, Katie began closely watching the techniques used by the speech therapists who tried to help, which seemed to rely heavily on repetition and relevance. From this, she came up with the idea of creating her own 12-track singalong CD which includes seven original songs specifically tailored to Carly's interests and needs (the songs play slower than usual and focus on "bilabial" sounds including the letters B, P, W, and M).
"Six months ago she couldn't say a word," says Katie, who has a master's degree in music therapy from Drexel University. "It was like we woke up."
