Are You Going Green?

By Mrs. Z - Posted on 11 February 2009

Some of you might remember my post at Christmas about the Tornado - a pen made from bamboo by Retro51 that is now my favorite writing instrument (besides my keyboard). Well, going green is easier for musicians than ever thanks to the introduction of "bio-resin" by Nebraska company Wheatware. In addition to their line of hangers and chopsticks and coasters they offer environmentally friendly, bio-degradable drumsticks and guitar picks.

These stick and picks are made entirely from American grown, annually-renewable crops. I like that. I like a lot.

So what are your ideas on going green?

Going Green is a growing trend for artists who are striving to make a difference through their music. Ecopalooza is an online index that will help with promotion, staffing and more.

Liquid Blue was officially designated a "Green Business" by the County of San Diego, Department of Environmental Health, Community Health Division on May 22nd, 2009. Liquid Blue has implemented "green practices" since the inception of the band in 1996; long before going green was fashionable. The band recently converted its offices to solar power. Liquid Blue is the first band to be certified green in the United States. For more info on the green practices of Liquid Blue and to get ideas on how you can "go green" click here for our Green Page.

2Suite uses custom in ear monitors and a wireless mic which can use a lot of batteries as you well know. We take them out of the 3 belt pacs and the wireless when not in use but still have been going through enough 9 volts to make us shudder. What to do. Well Tech Tips Tom did the research to find out what the best green rechargeable 9 volt system was and who was using it. Suffice it to say that 2Suite has a 10 bay 9 volt system by ansmann on the way and each 9 volt can be recharged 1000 times. That's a lot of batteries that don't go into the earth. It's not exactly cheap, but ultimately it's the way to go. Should be here in a few days. I will let you know.

This is sort of on the same subject and made of happy so I'm sharing.

On the way out today I found a bird nest in our cedar hedge. It is made of twigs and bits of vine woven together with shredded plastic sack. Seeing it made me realize again how resilient nature is. Bless the little recycling bird for cleaning up after her destructive human brethren.

Awww! That is just too adorable!

A couple years ago, a mockingbird nested in my oak tree, and wove in a large amount of somebody's discarded red Christmas tinsel. It wasn't a very inconspicuous nest--and I've always thought that was kind of the whole idea--but it was awfully pretty. I didn't draw the connection then that the bird was "recycling." From that point of view, it seems even cooler.

Lori,

I limit my driving where possible and have gone digital with all of my media - music, movies, even my books. The Kindle you mentioned on Read in the Tub day is a marvelous thing!

I want a Kindle but I'm waiting for the next generation... and for the price to come down a bit.

I try to limit my driving too. I pick up as much freelance from home work as I can, and on days that the kids' school needs me as a substitute, I ride the school bus in with them. The bus driver always appreciates the extra help keeping the kids in line, as much as I appreciate the ride. When the kids ask why I don't just drive myself, I point out the gas money I'm saving. With so many of their parents having to tighten their budgets, it is a point they seem to understand.

2Suite is very proud of the fact that we are GREEN artists in that we produce no hard copy. Everything is in the digital domain. No CD’S have been made, no paper printed, no ink. Some might say we are limiting ourselves in this way but we feel it is the way to go and I believe current industry trends will continue to prove that we are on the right track.
