Tech Tip #20 The law of Entrainment

Tech Tip #19 Show Your Softer Side

Those who have read my tips (and rants) before may recall my mentioning how Barbara Streisand would take some 10,000 odd yards of carpet and drapery on tour when she was playing huge arenas just to help level the acoustic playing field as it were. Well I realize most people can not do that, but you would be surprised at what you can do if you are resourceful. Lets examine my own audio situation at the Centre for Conscious Living here in Winnipeg. Wonderful old church with vaulted ceilings and lots of reverb. The stage is like a separate chamber and has a very "live" sound.

Double Tech Tip

I know I have been neglecting you guys and I beg your forgiveness. It is crazy this time of year. I work in a public school so we have grad, trips, and all sorts of stuff going on. Playing in 4 bands doesn't help either. But.......... to make up for it I thought I would try something never before attempted (by me) A DOUBLE TECH TIP! 2 for the price of 1. Top that. Of course I have to go and do it now, so staaaay tuned.

Tech Tip #18 Cable Care 101

Often overlooked is the proper care and feeding of your audio cables. When purchased, your microphone cables have a natural factory curl to them and if you pay attention to this and maintain that natural curl when you wrap your cables, they could last you for many many years and more importantly they will lay properly on the stage when you use them. Anyone who has witnessed the veritable rats nest of cables on a stage will appreciate that.

Love That Lav Mic! Tech Tip #15

Today’s tech tip is a few helpful hints on wireless lav microphone use. In my 25 + years as a sound tech this little unit has managed to give more headaches, heartaches, and pain in the you know what aches then any other microphone I can think of. Many people just plug in the receiver, clamp the lav mic unceremoniously in a convenient spot on the speaker, and spend the next few hours battling feedback. It does not need to be this way. Lets run down a quick list for success regarding Lav microphone usage.
